The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) has released guidelines regarding wage payments for employees on May 12, 2025, which has been declared a special non-working holiday in the Philippines for the midterm elections.
For Employees Who Do Not Work:
-
The “no work, no pay” principle applies unless there is a company policy, practice, or collective bargaining agreement (CBA) granting payment on a special non-working day.
For Employees Who Work on May 12:
-
Regular Work Hours (First 8 hours): Employees are entitled to an additional 30% of their basic wage.
-
Overtime Work (Exceeding 8 hours): Employees are entitled to an additional 30% of their hourly rate.
-
Rest Day Work: If May 12 coincides with the employee’s rest day, the additional pay increases to 50% of the basic wage for the first 8 hours.
-
Overtime on Rest Day: For work exceeding 8 hours on a rest day, employees are entitled to an additional 30% of their hourly rate.
Employers are reminded to comply with these guidelines to ensure proper compensation for their employees working on the special non-working holiday.
