Filipino gamers may soon experience faster and smoother online play as the new “Konektadong Pinoy” law officially opens the country’s telecom sector to fresh competition.

The law, signed earlier this year, breaks the long-standing duopoly of existing telecom giants and welcomes new players to invest in internet infrastructure across the Philippines. This move is expected to improve connectivity, lower costs, and widen access—especially in underserved provinces.

For gamers, better internet means quicker downloads, more stable connections, and fewer frustrating lags during competitive matches. Industry experts say the reform could also make the Philippines more attractive for international esports events, since reliable broadband is a key requirement for hosting tournaments.

Lawmakers behind the measure stressed that the goal is to make internet access a basic service for every Filipino, not a luxury. As one senator put it: “When gamers no longer have to worry about lag, you know we’re moving forward.”

With millions of Filipinos active in esports, streaming, and mobile games, this telecom shakeup could be the game-changer everyone’s been waiting for.
